Michael Evers

Michael Evers became a Macdonald Associate in 1999 in a special arrangement that allows him to work in the Anglican Church. At present he works with Philip Biggs in the Diocese of Perth, Western Australia on projects which include training for new clergy, parish leadership teams, ministry resource centres which link Anglican Community Schools and parishes, Anglican Community Schools, and diocesan restructuring. This work includes leading training in leadership, teamwork, organisational structure and cultural change, helping parishes work on systems design and facilitating meetings to improve church decision making processes. He read Archaeology and Ancient History at Birmingham University (UK) and then worked for eighteen years as a lecturer in Archaeology at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa from 1970-1988. During this time he completed research leading to Masters and Doctoral degrees. In 1984 he was ordained a priest in non-stipendiary ministry in the Diocese of Johannesburg while studying for a BTheol. at the University of South Africa. He worked in a West Rand parish and helped with chaplaincy work at the University in addition to lecturing and research. In 1988 he moved to Australia with his wife, Ann, and family and became a parish priest in the Diocese of Perth. Since 1990, in addition to parish duties, he has been involved in Theological Field Education, post-ordination Training in Ministry for new clergy, served as an Area Dean for five years and serves on a variety of diocesan committees. He has been Rector of two parishes in Perth Diocese. He is now Director of Formation for Ministry in the diocese, based at Wollaston College.
